NEW! Marc Jacobs Oh, Lola!

The new campaign

I have a confession to make. I am not overly keen on Marc Jacobs Lola. There. I've said it. Phew. Perhaps some of the reason to my aversion was because my expectations were too high. I am Daisy's biggest fan. From the moment I smelled it I knew it was made for me. Kinda like Andrew Garfield, only he doesn't know it yet. But when it came to Lola, I was left unmoved. So when I heard Marc Jacobs was launching another edition, I was determined to keep an open mind. And I'm so glad I did.

According to the press release, the Oh, Lola! girl is 'coy and clever with a wink,' while the new scent is 'a flirty facet of the original Lola.' Generally, I'd say this was a young scent...Mum, this probably isn't for you. Teens and girls in their twenties, even thirties could pull this off.

As with all MJ fragrances, you can't start a review without discussing the aesthetics and Oh, Lola! doesn't disappoint. The pink-hued packaging and rose glass bottle are made for a girl's dressing table, while the satisfyingly-tactile rubber flower lid is fun, without seeming garish. Would you expect anything less from Marc Jacobs? I think not.
On first spritz, the sweetness of this fruity floral hits you - it has an air of sweetie-infused hairspray about it - but offically the top notes feature raspberry and pear. After about 30 seconds, it gets more interesting, or shall we say the 'Oh' part of 'Lola' kicks in. Unequivocally feminine, the peony, magnolia heart then mellows in a sensual base of vanilla, sandalwood and tonka bean. It's that vanilla dry down that really lingers, surprisingly well for such a fresh floral. So is this for you? Well if you like your scents sweet and fruity, and your bottles pretty in pink, Oh, Lola! may very well become your signature scent.

Marc Jacobs Oh, Lola! is available from this Wednesday (0800 652 7661), priced from £37 30ml Sx

  1. I'm so pleased that someone else has said what seems to be unmentionable in the beauty world & admitted to not being wowed by Lola. I really wanted to like it- the bottle is undeniably amazing but I simply couldn't fall in love with it. Maybe I'll try Oh Lola but I don't tend to like fruity florals.

  2. Thanks for the feedback SDBB. Really appreciate it. I'm the same - preferred Oh, Lola! but still not for me. Fragrance is always tricky though as it's so subjective. Sx
